The JW’s will be out in full force in the coming weeks. You can use the very event they are inviting you to attend to help them think about what they have actually been taught and share the gospel. Avoid rabbit trails, most JW’s when faced with questions that make them uncomfortable will immediately try to get you in a discussion of the Trinity, avoid this, not because you can’t defend it but because it will be a distraction, the goal is to plant a seed and cause the JW to think.
The following invitation to the Memorial Celebration is found on jw.org
Once each year in thousands of locations worldwide, we commemorate the death of Jesus. We do so because he commanded his followers: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19) The next observance will be on:
Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
The serious question must be asked, what did Jesus command that we do in remembrance, the parallel verse that answers the question is Matthew 26:27,28 and the command was to partake, to eat and to drink, not to simply to pass the bread and wine or watch others partake. The reason JW’s disobey the command of Jesus is because the Watchtower has told them they are no part of the covenant Jesus instituted with his disciples, note the following Watchtower article for proof of this point.
“Since sharing in the bread and wine passed during the Memorial involves all of this, it would obviously be inappropriate for those having an earthly hope to partake. Those with an earthly hope discern that they themselves are not anointed members of the body of Christ, nor are they in the new covenant.. Were they to partake of the emblems, it would signify something that is not true with respect to them. Thus, they do not partake, though they do attend the Memorial as respectful observers.”
Watchtower 2006 Feb 15 p. 24
Most JW’s agree they are not in the New Covenant (because they are not of the anointed 144,000) and don’t really see an issue with this and may not have given it much thought because they are told that those not in the New Covenant will be part of an earthly class who may live forever on a restored earth as long as they remain obedient. The Simplified Watchtower 10/15/2014 states the following about covenants.
BETWEEN: Jehovah and anointed Christians
The Watchtower also teaches that forgiveness of Sins are a specific provision of the New Covenant.
“Jehovah provided Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice to take away sins. This is a specific provision of the “new covenant.”” Watchtower 1980 Nov 1 p.31
This teaching also leads to another teaching that most JW’s are not even aware of, that Jesus is not their Mediator. According to the Watchtower, Jesus is only Mediator for the ‘anointed’ as noted in the Watchtower 1979 referenced below.
Compare John 14:6, 1 Tim. 2:5
“So in this strict Biblical sense Jesus is the “mediator” only for anointed Christians.”
Watchtower 1979 Apr 1 p.31
What is the ‘Good News’ the Watchtower brings to the unsuspecting today? Note the following Watchtower articles that explain the good news of the Watchtower, (1) identifying God’s organization and (2) remaining loyal to that organization.
“Similarly, Jehovah is using only one organization today to accomplish his will. To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it.” Watchtower 1983 Feb 15 p.12
To keep in relationship with “our Savior, God,” the “great crowd” needs to remain united with the remnant of spiritual Israelites.”Watchtower 1979 Nov 15 p.27
The Watchtower teaches a false gospel, that mans salvation depends on being united with the organization. Paul said if anyone brings any other gospel than what he preached, they were to be accursed.
Compare Galatians 1:8
The Gospel includes knowing who Jesus Christ is, He is the Word who became flesh, He is who Thomas proclaimed him to be when he said to Jesus, “My Lord and my God”!
Compare John 1:14; 20:28
Use the information above for the discussion, you primarily want to ask questions.
- Is it true that most will not partake at this celebration? – allow for response but don’t challenge
- Will you personally partake, why, why not? – Challenge: share Matt. 26:27,28 and focus on what Jesus actually commanded
- Are only those with the heavenly hope part of the new covenant? – allow and note response
- In the nation of Israel, a proselyte was brought into the covenant, since you are not in the new covenant, what covenant are you in? – allow and note response
- Did you know that if you are not in the new covenant, Jesus is not your mediator according to the Watchtower? – quote the reference of this
- What is the gospel – allow and note response
- Share the gospel and include Rom.3:23, 1 Cor. 15:1-4, show them that they preach a false gospel that must be rejected. Galatians 1:8, 9
- Finish with the summary below exposing their hopeless state before Christ and call them to repent and believe.
Friend, if you put your trust in the Watchtower then it means you have denied the New Covenant, which means you have no forgiveness of sin (note Watchtower quote), you have denied Jesus as your Mediator, and you have denied who Thomas clearly professed Jesus to be, God!
You have also denied the life saving Gospel. When you stand before Christ on Judgement Day and present your works done in faith toward an organization, what can Jesus say to you except the following:
“I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!” Matthew 7:23
The following is laid out in logical progression in case the JW tries to divert to the Trinity claiming Jesus is created. This is an important subject but avoid if possible because it will end in debate and you will lose the point of trying to get the JW to understand his plight and need of a savior.
John 1:1-3, 14 – Word was God, all that was created, the Word created
Isaiah 43:10 – If no god was formed before or after Jehovah how is Jesus ‘a’ god created after Jehovah in John 1:1
Colossians 1:15-17 – Firstborn “preeminent” not first created, but creator see context
Psalm 89:27 – David called ‘Firstborn’ because of his preeminence
1 Chronicles 2:13-15 – David was actually the last born to Jesse
Isaiah 44:24 – If Jehovah created Jesus and Jesus created all ‘other’ things according the NWT rendering of Colossians 1:15-17, then Jehovah lied in Isaiah 44:24 and the bible contradicts itself
